The Annual Governor's Bay Bridge Run (10k) crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge from the Eastern Shore to Sandy Point State Park on the Western Shore each May. Started in 1985, it was not held in certain years, last run in 2006, and eventually cancelled due to lack of funding. Its successor is the Annual Across the Bay 10K, which started in November 2014. The sixth largest 10K in the United States, it next will be held November 5, 2017.

[photo, Annapolis Striders' 10-Mile Run, Rowe Blvd., Annapolis, Maryland] From the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis and other sites, the Annapolis Striders sponsor marathons and other events, including the annual Annapolis 10-Mile Run, next scheduled for August 27, 2017. Also in Maryland's capital city, the annual Annapolis Running Classic next will be held November 18, 2017.

On the Eastern Shore, in Ocean City, the 13th Island to Island Half Marathon & 5K will take place on April 29, 2017 and the annual Storm Warriors 5K Run/Walk next will be held November 11, 2017.

In Baltimore, the Baltimore Marathon, also known as the Baltimore Running Festival, is next scheduled for October 21, 2017. The 26.2-mile race features some $100,000 in prizes. Also in "Charm City," the Baltimore Road Runners Club sponsors running and walking events year round, and the Annual Fort McHenry Tunnel 5K Run/Walk next will be held in September 2017.

In Western Maryland, the Frederick Running Festival next will be held in May 2018.

The Maryland Half-Marathon & 5K, a charity run benefiting the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center, now held in Maple Lawn in Howard County, will next be held in May 2018. Previously, it had been held in Timonium, Baltimore County.

In Montgomery County, the Nanty Narking Nearly 9K & 2 Mile Fun Stroll will be held in Sandy Spring in May 2018. It will follow a path by local historic sites, and offer Civil War era music as well.
